Thank you for your interest in the Green Rico Organization, GRO,
based in Rico, Colorado.
The
Green Rico
Organization was founded on
February 14th,
2005 in Rico,
Colorado with the mission to promote strong local economies
through sustainable living practices for
Rico,
Colorado and other similar high altitude mountain communities.
We are currently planning a winter fundraiser. Check back to find
out more!
The
Roots in Rico Greenhouse Project will be the
centerpiece of
GRO’s sustainable living program.
It will provide
numerous educational opportunities to the local and surrounding
communities and serve as a “how to” for communities world wide. It
will be critical learning tool for the
growing
Rico Elementary School by offering courses ranging from organic
growing to business skills for the
Rico Elementary students.
Green Rico
Organization
has been very busy creating regional alliances with like-minded
groups. Our invaluable advisor
Kris Holstrom, of
Tomtem Farms in
Telluride, CO, along with
Shannon Carmen from
The La Boca Center for Sustainability in Durango, CO, is walking
the path with GRO to create a regional network of sustainability
programs.

The Roots in Rico Green House Project
will become a high altitude annex for collaborative
educational endeavors. And if that’s not enough,
Tomten,
La Boca, and GRO are launching
a collaborative CD Fundraiser
with a potential to raise over $40,000 in funds.
This
fundraiser will support each organization’s individual goals: to
build greenhouses, design a mobile mushroom laboratory, create
educational curriculums for adults and children, and
support
research and development of sustainable living practices.
